LAY RECERTIFICATION TRAINING is designed for lay ministers who attended a full day of basic safe church training three or more years ago. This training is two and a half hours long and offers new and updated information. The focus is on the protection of children and youth and prevention of elder abuse.

Recommended Training for Laity:

Prevention of abuse and exploitation of both children and adults for all lay ministers in positions
of parish leadership, whether paid or volunteer. These educational offerings are strongly
encouraged for church school teachers, anyone who sees people in their homes on behalf of the
church, e.g. Eucharistic Visitors or parish visitors, Vestries and Officers, and anyone who works
with children and youth. All lay persons are welcome and invited to attend safe church trainings.
Each parish has the discretion to develop its own practices regarding required training of laity.
